I believe Friday caught Mau off guard. He had to squeeze in an extra nap as a result.

Hooray, hooray! It’s National Cat Day!
Oh wait. I’m pretty sure that’s every day at our house. The clowder insists that we celebrate, even if we don’t give them new toys every day. Instead we give them adoration.
Garrus and Charlie observed National Cat Day with an appropriately cute snuggle. Not quite a heart shape but bromance-flavored nonetheless.
When I told Mau it was National Cat Day, this was his response. Typical.
Everyone wanted to bro down for National Cat Day. Note Garrus’ intense side eye.
How will you celebrate National Cat Day? Will there be catnip-filled merrymaking, new toys, and cat tower carousing? Share in the comments!
Aaah! Monday found me! When will it go away? Am I in trouble?
Mau found a new unlikely spot while exploring. It’s hard to get mad at that adorable face, trust me. He got down on his own to chase after a spring he left on the floor.
Aaahhh! My house has been invaded by box monsters! At least they’re fluffy and cute.
This one could be called a Box Maunster!
Garrus gave me so much side-eye when I started taking photos.
Charlie, on the other hand, was more interested in playing around the box, rather than in it. The cats are quite intrigued when I’ve tossed toys into the box – a scavenger hunt is very exciting!
I managed to catch one of the box monsters in action!
Being scampery box monsters can be quite tiring, so obviously a snuggle is warranted.
Mau likes to snooze on the cat tree and purrs most happily whenever he gets a visit.
Having three cats – all boys, with very different personalities – is a fun lesson in cat ownership. I’ve noticed that all three regularly play by themselves and with each other. It’s a common occurrence for a scamper session to start before we wake up in the morning and continue during breakfast. Another preferred time to bat toys around and tell everyone about it is right when we’re going to bed. Charlie in particular likes to warble when he plays – I’ve been working on getting video and audio of it so I can share it with you here on Purry Home Companion.
Hooray the boys are getting along! Apparently Charlie and Garrus are starting to see Mau as belonging to their social group.
Garrus and Mau chill on the ottoman.
“Hi Mom. I really want the blue blanket for myself but Charlie won’t move. Maybe we can snuggle instead.” ~Mau
They both fit!
Charlie and Mau shared the cat tree! Charlie got his spot back!

Garrus remains unconcerned.
Cats will find the most interesting ways to amuse themselves – and often end up making their humans chuckle too. Occasionally all three cats will have the zoomies, though it is rare for all three to have the zoomies at the same time. During a decent scamper session, there is usually quite a bit of jumping onto and sliding on top of the ottoman. Apparently Mau discovered another use for the crocheted blanket after his slide made it askew: it makes a hiding spot!
“You can’t see me! I’m hiding!” (No, not really. I could see your fluffy tail sticking out from beneath the blanket.)
“Where should I scamper to next?”

We interrupt to your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this important news bulletin:
We are the opposite of concerned. You may now resume your previous activities.
Happy Tuesday!
We’ve had Mau for almost three months now. About a dozen people have reached out to Austin Pets Alive expressing an interest in him, though several have not responded after an initial email. I’ve exchanged emails with a few and it was by mutual agreement that Mau was probably not a good fit for that particular person and home. (That’s OK. Not every pet fits every person.) Two people have met Mau in person but the main issue there is that he becomes Mr. Shy and hides under the bed whenever new people come to the house! It’s hard to convince someone that he is a lap cat when he’s nowhere to be seen and requires a lot of coaxing to come out.
After having Mau in our house for some time, we’ve been able to assess a few of his needs. If we were to draw up an ideal home for him, this is what we would want:
LOOK AT HIM. He’s adorable, isn’t he?
National Hug Your Hound Day was created by the author and canine behaviorist Ami Moore, the “Dog Whisperer of Chicago”. The holiday is observed annually on the second Sunday of September.

National Hug Your Hound Day is about “truly observing your dog (from his point of view” in his environment and everyday life”. Like a number of other pet-themed holidays, it focuses on the happiness and health of your pet. Oh yeah, it might also be a perfect excuse to ensure your dog is sufficiently hugged!
